Off to Arizona >>>>
This raven greeted us in the Painted Desert, our next stop on our westward journey. We headed into the Petrified Forest National Park. The northern part of this park is the Painted Desert.
This was our RV bench view as we ate lunch looking out on the Painted Desert. As before, much of Route 66 is buried under Interstate 40. There are few access roads and at least three times we started down an access road running next to the Interstate and had to return to the interstate entrance because the road had been blocked with a great pile of rocks to prevent outsiders from entering Indian lands.
We did find this old Studebaker halfway through the park marking the old Route 66. It may look rusty but it looks like the rangers must take good care of it. In case you can’t identify her that is Susie standing in the desert next to the great old car.
We spent the night at the south end of the National Park. In the morning we headed south, west and north through the Coconino National Forest to a friend’s place in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Today, Sunday, we had the great fortune of spending the day in the Grand Canyon. Our Flagstaff friend regularly spends time in the Canyon and took us to her favorite, quiet spot. We watched the Ravens playing in the sky above the Canyon. We found out later groups over two Ravins are juveniles and these birds were acting the part. It was the only way to experience the Canyon.
Next stop Sedona, Prescott and maybe Quartzite. Arizona. Stay well.
